This Labor Day, I want you to pause and think about this: why do we compare ourselves to online fitness influencers?
I hear it all the time—people look at how much an influencer weighs or how lean they look and feel they’re somehow falling short. But let’s be real: those bodies you see online are often a carefully crafted illusion. Perfect lighting, touched-up photos, recycled images from months ago when they were in peak condition. Many even stockpile “best shots” and drip them out, making it seem like that’s how they look every day.
Meanwhile, you’re living real life. You’re a parent, a spouse, a business owner, working hard to hold it all together. Fitness isn’t your job—it’s something you do to feel strong, to be healthy, to show up as your best self for the people you love. And no, you don’t have a ring light following you around all day.
Here’s another truth: getting ultra-lean doesn’t mean being healthy. For women, dipping below a normal body fat range (around 21–23%) can cause serious hormonal issues, missed cycles, even fertility problems. For both men and women, being “stage lean” often means poor sleep, low energy, and zero libido. But those influencer smiles don’t show that.
And those famous before-and-after photos? Sometimes the “after” shot comes first—right after a competition when they’re at their leanest. Then they gain weight, take another picture, and flip the story.
Don’t fall for it. You’re better than that. Keep showing up, wearing all those hats with grace and resilience. Be the best version of YOU—for your health, your family, and your life. 🙏🏻😊💪🏼
