Mindset Monday: Maybe This Is Why You’re Stuck… A Different Way to Look at Progress

Think of your body like a budget.

Every day, it has fixed expenses that must be paid no matter what: keeping your brain working, managing stress, getting you through work, workouts, relationships, and life. Those are non-negotiable. The lights have to stay on.

Then there are the “optional” upgrades: fat loss, building muscle, hormone balance, and deep recovery. Those only happen when there’s enough left over after survival is covered.

Here’s where most people get tripped up…

If your income is low (not enough food, poor sleep, limited recovery) and your expenses are high (work stress, emotional load, hard training, always being “on”), your body doesn’t fail — it adapts. It tightens the budget. And the first things to go are fat loss, muscle gain, and optimal hormones.

That’s why so many people are “doing everything right” and still feel stuck. From your body’s perspective, fat loss isn’t a priority when resources feel tight.

And yet what do we usually do?

We try to fix it by adding more stress… more restriction, harder workouts, tighter rules. That’s like putting more charges on a maxed-out credit card. That’s why adding a 12th boot camp class for the week and cutting calories even further is almost never the answer — it just digs the hole deeper.

The real fix is simple, but not easy: increase income and reduce unnecessary drains. Eat enough to support your training. Add back carbs when needed. Fuel workouts instead of punishing yourself with them. Treat sleep and recovery like they actually matter — because they do.

When the budget feels safer, the body loosens its grip.

Sometimes you’re not broken… you’re just overdrawn. 😊💪🏼
