Recently, I posted:
“Just because you’re not tracking your food doesn’t mean your body isn’t.”
Let’s unpack that a bit.
First, not all tracking is the same. Not everyone should track. For some, logging every bite into an app feels obsessive or triggering. And for others, just stepping on a scale can ruin their whole day. In those cases? Ditch the scale. Skip the app. But don’t skip awareness.
Because the truth is—your body always keeps score. It knows what’s going in, even if you don’t want to write it down. The caramel macchiato? It counts. The ranch dressing? Definitely counts. The handful of M&M’s from Brenda’s desk jar? Yup, those too.
But “tracking” doesn’t have to mean spreadsheets and food scales. Sometimes it’s just creating better awareness.
That could look like:
- Starting your day with a balanced breakfast
- Cutting back on alcohol
- Eating more on purpose to build metabolism
For clients trying to build their metabolism and increase calories, we might start with something simple:
“Add a baked potato with butter to dinner each night.”
Then: “Try an apple with peanut butter pre-workout.”
Later: “Boost your post-workout shake with almond butter and berries.”
Simple. Measurable. Sustainable.
Awareness + consistency = progress.
So no, you don’t have to become a food-logging machine. But understand this: your body tracks everything—food, sleep, stress, movement. The more youbecome aware of what helps you feel better (physically and emotionally), the more empowered you are to make sustainable progress.
Your body’s keeping tabs anyway… you might as well be part of the conversation. 😉
