A healthy rate of fat loss is about 1 to 2 pounds per week. Or roughly 0.5% to 1% of your body weight per week, depending on your size and body composition.

(Quick math: if you weigh 200 lbs, a healthy weekly fat loss goal is 1 to 2 lbs. Suddenly, those daily weight fluctuations don’t seem so dramatic, right?)

The goal isn’t just to lose weight—it’s to lose fat while preserving muscle. Why?
