“Dave, I don’t want to watch what I eat. I’m a foodie!”
I hear this often. And my response? Me too. I love food. I love eating. I love sharing meals with my wife. If that makes me a foodie, then I’m all in.
But here’s the thing: being a foodie doesn’t mean indulging in every muffin, latte, or dessert that crosses your path. For me, it means enjoying real, satisfying food that fuels my body and still tastes amazing.
The other night, Melissa and I had meatloaf, cauliflower, and baked potatoes with butter. About 800 calories of grass-fed beef and whole foods. Comfort food? Absolutely. But it also drove me closer to my health and fitness goals.
Compare that to a Starbucks run: one caramel macchiato and a muffin—also about 800 calories. But here’s the difference: that’s gone in minutes, with little nutrition, and leaves me hungrier an hour later.
So when someone once told me, “You must only eat tofu,” I laughed. The truth is, healthy eating doesn’t have to mean “weird” food. It means intentional food. Food that makes you feel strong, keeps you energized, and still comforts you at the dinner table.
Yes, I love eating out with Melissa, too. But I’ve noticed the disparity: meals at restaurants often run 2,000 calories or more, with added oils, sugars, and hidden extras that drive up inflammation. Fun once in a while? Absolutely. But nothing beats the consistency, the taste, and the comfort of a good home-cooked meal.
So here’s my point: you can love food, love eating, and love life—and still stay aligned with your health goals. Being a foodie doesn’t mean reckless indulgence. It means being intentional.
Now that’s comfort food. 🙏🏻😊💪🏼❤️
