The people have spoken…. “We want less cardio equipment and more weights!”

And gyms are listening!

About a year ago, I posted a video on some of the changes that I’ve seen in gyms over the years. One of the recent changes that I noted was that I see a lot of younger females (20–30) strength training. 

This is a real positive and a big change from the Biggest Loser, boot camp, and aerobics class mentality of “cardio cardio cardio”. 

I’m so glad that people are learning!

Cardio cannot be the cornerstone of your fat loss program.

I chose those words very carefully. I’m not saying cardio is bad. I am saying that cardio cannot be the cornerstone of your fat loss program.

The main reason is that your body will adapt to cardio rather quickly. So you’ll need to do more, your body adapts, you need to do more, your body adapts, you need to do more… Where does that end??

But lifting weights BUILDS your metabolism. And people are starting to realize that. 😊

In fact, the people have spoken!

Across the nation, big box gyms are reducing the space allocated for cardio, and bringing in more weightlifting equipment, such as squat racks, bench presses, and other free weights!

Yes, people are understanding the importance of BUILDING their metabolism vs. tearing it down with excessive cardio and too low of calories.

And I just found out this weekend that my local Crunch gym in Mechanicsburg is going to be remodeling and reducing their cardio space, and bringing in a significant amount of new squat racks, and additional free weights!

The people have spoken… And gyms are listening!
